Gives Me Goosebumps

Kristy of Team 27 Hetzel posted the following note on Horsetales list serv about her first MOTDRA (competitive trail) ride.  (click to enlarge).

I absolutely loved reading this post because many of us have done that first CTR and can relate to how she felt.  Having the weather be a factor just added to the drama and if you have never ridden at Indian Cave, those trails can be wicked when wet.

Sara[h], who she references in her post, is Sarah Rinne of Team 58 Machismo Morgan, an experienced competitive trail rider and fellow Distance Derby rider.  Shortly after I read Kristy’s post on Horsetales, I came across the following exchange in the comments section on the Distance Derby site and wanted to share them with you in case you missed it.

I know competing in this ride was a very important to Kristy and once again I am touched by the camaraderie of these riders.  I don’t think Sarah is on Horsetales, so I wanted to make sure she knew how important her coaching was to Kristy and for helping her complete her first competitive ride.  You both should be very proud.

And it keeps getting better!  This this just in from Ride Manager, Shannon of Team 2 Chastain regarding Kristy’s ride.

Congrats to Team Messick and Team Vallery for passing the 500 mile marker and to Team Juanita for being the first to gallop past the 700 mile line!

WOW! I was surprised to hop on here to update my miles and see all this! Kristy makes me sound like a Saint :). Ha! I had a blast riding with Kristy and it was fun when we discovered we were both Derby riders! I love the opportunity to help out a first time competitor - I was there once too and know how important it is. It sounds like Kristy caught onto my behavior modification tactic - it does come naturally with my profession... :) Kristy, you and Wolfie were awesome and you will have many more great rides ahead! Thank you for your kind words and a fun ride at Indian Caves my friend!

This is the second time I read this report and I was smiling all the way through it again. Kristy, I admire your nerve to do this ride! Sounds like Wolfie breezed through it! Thank God for mentors, eh?
