My name is Randy, and my partner is my 8 year old rescue Saddlebred gelding, SBR Willow, who I've had for 5 years. I live in central North Carolina with my wonderful husband and dogs.
These days I mostly trail ride, although I've dabbled in most activities over the years. Stylistically I'm a blend of my cowboy Dad and the hunter/jumper discipline I first learned to ride in, which has resulted in some very adventurous rides! I guess you'd say I'm a cowgirl in an English saddle. I hope to compete in judged trail rides soon.

Short ride yesterday- forgot my hat AND my crop, so wasn't feeling too adventurous on my greenie, and he was "lookier" than usual, could the two things possibly be related?
Oh yeah, rode 1.63 miles in 33.50 minutes!
A better, more forward ride today. (remembered hat & crop)-- it's funny how it seems I have to remind him that he really is very brave about objects and hazards. 3.30 miles in 1:14:04. Slow and steady is going to be our motto until he gets more comfortable with his job.
Just a very short 1.16 miles today in 1:02 minutes, but with half a dozen stops along the way to look for a few elusive blades of winter grass. There weren't many. I planned on bushwacking a trail I created a couple of years ago, but it proved to have become too overgrown to navigate safely with a horse. Sigh. I'll have to draft my WHS (Wonderful Husband Scott) and his chainsaw.
3.96 miles in 1:14 ---we actually trotted a couple times today---woo hoo!
I've got to find a new helmet---i love my (large) Tipperary Sportage, except that I must have a really weirdly shaped---as well as big---head, because the front of it hurts me, giving me a headache. A large, for crying out loud! Anybody got any suggestions before I hit the local money-is-no-object tack shop?
4.10 miles in 1:52, but really it wasn't quite as slow as it sounds---we spent quite a bit of time clipping stray branches and chatting with my cousins who we ran into. What a great ride--- he went better than he has before, and I DIDN'T do a pre-ride lunge today! Riddle me that. Maybe it was just the fantastic weather--- mid 50s, sunny & no wind?
4.7 miles in 1:47 minutes. Well, that's going to be my routine trail and distance, so now I guess we work on improving our time, which won't happen til I get all the troublesome branches cleared, or else get tired of trimming them!
Starting a job that will keep me from riding for the next two weeks or so...blech.
Hi Randy! Nice to meet you. I am from near Wakefield, Nebraska and frequently ride with Tammy Alexander (Team 59: Alexander). Taking Tammy V's suggestion to read other's post and get to know them so I chose you and Team 37: Giddy Up! since you both happen to be in the running near me as of today.
Happy Trails!!! Marvel Rahn
